The NSS Unit of BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College, Sawarde, Chiplun, organized a “World Environment Day” celebration on 5th June 2026 at Lecture Hall No. 2, Hospital Building. The programme was conducted under the theme “Save Tulsi, Save Environment” to promote awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of medicinal plants. A total of 143 MBBS students (Batch 2025), along with 8 NSS volunteers and 4 faculty members, actively participated in the event. The programme began with a welcome address by Miss Asrin, who highlighted the significance of protecting the environment. The event was graced by Dr. Arvind Yadav (IQAC Chairman) as Chief Guest and Dr. Bhagwat (Professor of Biochemistry). NSS Programme Coordinator Dr. Chetan Javsen guided and coordinated the programme. NSS volunteers presented informative insights on the environmental and medicinal benefits of Tulsi, emphasizing its role in improving air quality and supporting traditional healthcare. As a symbolic gesture, Tulsi plants were presented to the dignitaries. Dr. Bhagwat delivered an enlightening talk on environmental challenges such as pollution and climate change, encouraging students to adopt eco-friendly practices. The programme concluded with a Tulsi plantation drive involving all participants, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility. Overall, the event was successful in inspiring students and staff to contribute towards a greener and healthier environment.
