A comprehensive workshop on Cognitive Testing and Malin’s Intelligence Scale for Indian Children (MISIC) was successfully conducted on 25th and 26th March 2026 at the Department of Psychology & Medicine Demo Room, Dervan (SVJCT Campus). The sessions were led by expert resource persons Dr. Beena Koshy and Dr. Rachel Beulah from CMC Vellore. The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from Dr. Suvarna Patil, Psychiatry Junior Residents, psychologists, lecturers, and around 35 psychology and nursing students, creating a dynamic and multidisciplinary learning environment. The sessions began with an introduction to the fundamentals of cognitive and intelligence assessment, with a special focus on the structure and application of MISIC in the Indian context. Participants were guided through key theoretical concepts, ethical considerations, and also experienced a campus exposure visit. Further sessions provided in-depth training on cognitive domains, test administration, scoring procedures, interpretation of results, and effective communication with families. Participants were also introduced to clinical assessment techniques, enhancing their practical understanding. A major highlight of the workshop was the hands-on administration of MISIC by psychologists on students, closely observed by the experts. Detailed feedback was provided on essential aspects such as building rapport with children, delivering clear and standardized instructions, managing engagement, applying basal methods, and following correct assessment procedures. Participants also received expert guidance on accurate scoring and interpretation to ensure standardization and reliability in assessments. Additionally, the experts visited Dhangarwadi, the designated field area, to understand the real-world setting and plan for effective implementation of MISIC assessments. The workshop significantly strengthened participants’ clinical and assessment skills, providing valuable practical exposure and bridging the gap between theory and real-world psychological testing.
