Marathi Language Pride Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 27th February 2026 under the banner of the cultural and arts forum “Mrudgandh” of Shri Viththalrao Joshi Charities Trust. The program was organized from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Dr. Anil Kakodkar Hall.
The day marks the birth anniversary of Jnanpith Award-winning poet Kusumagraj and is observed as Marathi Language Pride Day across Maharashtra. The celebration highlighted the richness and cultural legacy of the Marathi language.
Prof. Dr. Deepti Raghunath Shembekar, a scholar of Marathi and Yogashastra, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an insightful address on “Preservation of the Mother Tongue and Advancement of Indian Knowledge Systems.” She emphasized the classical depth of Marathi and its significant contribution to preserving traditional Indian knowledge. She also appreciated the vision of the proposed Shri Viththalrao Joshi University, noting its potential role in nurturing Indian Knowledge Systems.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Advait Godse from the Department of Physiology at B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College and chief mentor of the Mrudgandh forum. Medical Director Dr. Suvarna Patil formally welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet, in the presence of Dean Dr. Manasingrao Ghatge.
Student Abhishek Havaladar shared his thoughts on the theme “Majhi Mayboli,” expressing pride in the Marathi language. The cultural segment featured vibrant performances including singing, instrumental music, poetry recitation, mono-acting, and dramatic readings by students and faculty members, creating an inspiring literary atmosphere.
The event received an enthusiastic response from the audience. The program was anchored by student Rama Shetye and was attended by several faculty members, making it a memorable tribute to the Marathi language and its timeless heritage.
