The Department of Psychiatry, B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College, successfully conducted a two-day workshop on “Brief Tobacco Intervention” to train medical, nursing, and psychology students and staff in providing effective tobacco-cessation counseling to patients.
The sessions were held in Lecture Hall 1 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with 62 participants on the first day and 64 participants on the second. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills to carry out brief interventions for patients in OPD and IPD settings.
Under the theme “Be Free to Express Yourself”, Dr. Kumari Padma led the sessions, which included interactive role plays, group discussions, and demonstrations. Participants gained insights into the burden of tobacco use, communication strategies, and intervention techniques to support patients in quitting tobacco.
A pre-test and post-test were conducted to assess the knowledge gained during the sessions. Participants actively shared their feedback, expressing that the workshop was highly informative and helped them understand the practical aspects of tobacco intervention in clinical practice.
