A three-day Value Added Course on Nutrition and Dietetics was successfully conducted from 20th to 22nd February 2026 at Lecture Hall-02, BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College. The program was organized by the Department of Biochemistry and attended by 72 students. The sessions were held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on 20th and 21st February, and from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on 22nd February. The course aimed to increase awareness about the importance of proper nutrition, balanced diet, food safety, and healthy lifestyle practices. During the program, students learned about the essential components of a balanced diet, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. The sessions also explained the role of nutrients in maintaining health and preventing diseases. Special focus was given to dietary requirements for different age groups and conditions. These included balanced diets for adults and medical students, infants and children (Group A), pregnant and lactating women (Group B), and the elderly population (Group C). The course also covered therapeutic nutrition and explained how diet plays an important role in managing diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cancer. Students were encouraged to adopt healthy eating habits and apply this knowledge in their daily lives. In addition, the program included practical sessions on food safety and hygiene. Students were taught proper hand-washing techniques, safe food handling, food preservation methods, and ways to prevent food adulteration and contamination. Interactive discussions helped clear common myths about diet and nutrition. Demonstrations made it easier for students to understand key concepts. Overall, the program improved students’ knowledge about nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention. It encouraged them to follow healthy lifestyle practices and spread awareness about proper diet and food safety in the community.
