Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust, Dervan, organised a commemorative programme to mark the death anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, one of India’s prominent freedom fighters, national leaders and social reformers. The programme was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust, Dervan. As part of the observance, floral tributes were offered at the Lokmanya Tilak Memorial and Swatantryaveer Savarkar Memorial, paying homage to the two eminent personalities and their contribution to India’s freedom movement. The programme featured Dr. Sanjay Kandalgaonkar as the chief speaker. He is a renowned academician and educationist in Pune, Maharashtra, rather than a medical doctor. He is the former Vice-Principal of Brijlal Jindal College of Commerce (BMCC), Pune, a former Principal at Chintamanrao College of Commerce, Sangli, and an M.Phil and PhD research guide in commerce and management at Savitribai Phule Pune University. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the introduction and felicitation of the speakers. Dr. Kandalgaonkar appreciated the school’s discipline, social commitment, and modern educational facilities. He spoke about the lives and contributions of Lokmanya Tilak and Swatantryaveer Savarkar, highlighting their patriotism, literary achievements, and sacrifices during India’s freedom struggle. Through inspiring incidents from Tilak’s life, he encouraged students to read the Constitution, understand their fundamental rights and duties, and draw inspiration from the ideals of the great national leaders. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and the rendition of Vande Mataram. The event provided an opportunity for the participants to remember Lokmanya Tilak’s enduring legacy and reflect on his ideals of nationalism, education, social awareness and self-reliance.
