Shri Vithalrao Joshi Deemed to be University: A Vision for World-Class Education Rooted in Indian Knowledge Systems
With the guiding principles of Skilled Hands, Compassionate Hearts, and the Wisdom of Indian Knowledge Tradition, Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust is establishing Shri Vithalrao Joshi Deemed to be University, marking a significant milestone in higher education in the Konkan region. The proposed university has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a Deemed to be University and aims to create a unique educational ecosystem that integrates modern science, Indian Knowledge Systems, research, skill-based education, and rural development. Backed by over five decades of excellence in education, healthcare, rural development, sports, Vedic education, and community service, Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust has built a strong foundation for this ambitious initiative. The Trust currently manages a multi-specialty hospital, a rural medical college, nursing and physiotherapy colleges, a sports academy, a Vedic school (Vedpathshala), and several educational and social institutions. The university has been designed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, placing strong emphasis on multidisciplinary education. Students will benefit from flexible curricula, skill-oriented learning, research opportunities, industry-integrated training, and a value-based education system inspired by Indian traditions. The university has also adopted the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit framework under NEP. Students will have the flexibility to earn a Certificate after one year, a Diploma after two years, and a Bachelor’s Degree after successful completion of three years, enabling greater academic flexibility and career progression. The university has received approval for several innovative academic programmes, including:

- B.Sc. Psychological and Spiritual Health
- M.Sc. Clinical and Counselling Psychology
- B.A. and M.A. in Darśana Śāstra, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and Sanskrit
- B.Sc. and M.Sc. Biomedical Instrumentation
These programmes integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI), research, data science, technological innovations, sports sciences, yoga, German and Spanish language education, and Indian Knowledge Systems, preparing students for emerging global opportunities.The university’s vision extends beyond conventional higher education through its “CILLAGE” Rural Development Model, which connects academic learning with rural transformation. Special emphasis is being placed on collaborations with national and international institutions, research and Ph.D. opportunities, advanced laboratories, entrepreneurship guidance, career development, and placement support. The university campus is being developed at the Walawalkar Hospital Campus, Sawarde, featuring modern digital classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, a digital library, advanced research facilities, an Olympic-standard sports complex, and a lush green campus.
