8th and 9th March 2025, an ‘Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Cadaveric Workshop

The Department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) at Walawalkar Rural Medical College & Hospital successfully conducted its second consecutive workshop on “Sinuses”, focusing on advanced sinus surgery training for ENT specialists.

A total of 18 ENT surgeons participated in the workshop and were trained in sinus surgery techniques by expert faculty using 10 cadaveric specimens. The hands-on sessions enabled participants to gain practical expertise in endoscopic sinus surgery. Surgeons from Mumbai, Pune, Sangli, Miraj, Nanded, and Ratnagiri attended the training program.

Several renowned ENT specialists graced the event, including Dr. Rajesh Yadav (Shatabdi Hospital, Mumbai), Prof. Dr. Shashikant Mashal (Cooper Hospital, Mumbai), Dr. Trupti Gadkari (Kurla Bhabha Hospital, Mumbai), Prof. Dr. Prasoon Mishra (Bharati University, Pune), Dr. Paresh Chavan (Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune), and Dr. Sachin Nikhle (Bharati University, Sangli).

The workshop was supported by state-of-the-art equipment including endoscopic systems, cameras, telescopes, debriders, and drills, ensuring a realistic surgical environment. The dissection lab was fully equipped with surgical theatre-like facilities such as operating tables, cameras, and lights, providing participants an experience comparable to live surgeries.

A unique feature of this camp was the use of soft-embalmed cadavers, specially prepared to mimic live tissue, making surgical training more effective. These rare soft cadavers, unavailable elsewhere in Maharashtra, were developed under the guidance of Dr. Prashant Amula, Professor, Department of Anatomy, B.K.L. Walawalkar Medical College.

The workshop’s success was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Rajiv Keni and Dr. Pratik Shahane, ENT specialists at Walawalkar Hospital, with valuable guidance from Dr. Dharangute, Dr. Sandeep Sathe, and Dr. Netaji Patil. Equipment and support were also provided by leading medical suppliers including Santosh Surgicals, Kolambkar, Survel, Univ Labs, and Medtronic.
