The Department of Community Medicine, BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College (BKLWRMC), in collaboration with the Internal Committee (IC), SVJCT, organized a POSH Act, 2013 Awareness Session on 28th July 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Lecture Hall–03, First Floor, Medical College Building. The session was conducted by Dr. Rachhanaa Pawaskar, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine and Member of the Internal Committee (IC), SVJCT, for Second Year MBBS students.The awareness program aimed to educate students about the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013, emphasizing workplace safety, gender equality, and the legal framework for the prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment.During the session, Dr. Pawaskar explained the key provisions of the POSH Act, including the definition of sexual harassment, the rights and responsibilities of individuals, and the complaint redressal mechanism through the Internal Committee. She highlighted the importance of creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment in both academic institutions and healthcare workplaces.The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged in discussions and sought clarification on various aspects of the Act. Participants appreciated the relevance of the topic in preparing them for their future roles as healthcare professionals.Reflecting on the session, a female student remarked, “This session has truly opened my eyes to my rights and the importance of speaking up. I feel more aware and empowered now.” Another participant shared, “Understanding the POSH Act is essential for all of us, not just as future doctors but as responsible individuals who must ensure a safe environment for everyone.”The program successfully enhanced students’ awareness of legal rights, gender sensitivity, and professional ethics while reinforcing the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful workplace. The session concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the successful completion of an informative and engaging awareness initiative.
