The NSS Unit of BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical College organized a meaningful and inspiring programme on 07 November 2025 to commemorate National Cancer Awareness Day along with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The event aimed to promote cancer awareness, encourage preventive healthcare practices, and celebrate national pride.

Objective
The programme was conducted to spread awareness about cancer prevention, promote early detection practices, and reinforce patriotic spirit through the celebration of Vande Mataram’s 150-year legacy.

Inauguration
The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony by
Dr. Arvind Yadav (IQAC Coordinator), Dr. Donald (UK), and Heads of various departments, marking an auspicious beginning.
Vande Mataram Segment
- An NSS volunteer shared the history and significance of Vande Mataram.
- A collective rendition of the song filled the hall with strong patriotic emotion.
Cancer Awareness Activities
- A PowerPoint presentation showcased key information about cancer, its rising incidence, risk factors, and prevention methods.
- Dr. Rachna Pawaskar, trained in Preventive Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, delivered an insightful session on breast cancer awareness and the importance of self-examination.
- Students delivered speeches on “Closing the Care Gap,” highlighting the need for equitable access to cancer care services.
Cultural & Student Activities
- A heartfelt song dedicated to cancer survivors was presented by students, spreading hope and positivity.
- Another student shared insights on cancer diagnosis and treatment in India.
Poster Presentation Competition
Earlier, a poster competition on cancer awareness was organized. Winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates, encouraging creative engagement with the theme.
Conclusion
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of dignitaries, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and participants. Under the guidance of Dr. Chetan Javsen, NSS Coordinator, the event successfully combined awareness, education, and patriotism, reflecting the true spirit of NSS.
