Distinguished Alumni Inspire Students to Join Civil Services at SVJCT School Collector and Deputy Superintendent of Land Records Guide Students on UPSC, MPSC and Service to the Nation
Shri Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust’s English Medium School and Junior College of Science, Sawarde, organized an inspiring interactive session titled ” From SVJCT School to the Service of the Nation ” featuring its distinguished alumni, Mr. Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirke (IAS), Collector and District Magistrate, Malkangiri, Odisha, and Mr. Siddhant Pradip Sawant, Deputy Superintendent, Land Records, Government of Maharashtra. The programme commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of the distinguished Alumni by the teacher Mrs. Riya Mahadik, followed by honouring them by the School Director Mrs. Sharayu Yashwantrao.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Prathamesh Rajeshirke fondly recalled his school days and expressed gratitude to his teachers for shaping his career. He introduced students to the structure of the Indian Civil Services and explained the differences between committees and commissions, constitutional bodies, and the separation of administration from the legislature. He highlighted the contributions of C . D . Deshmukh , the first IAS officer from Maharashtra , along with the administrative reforms of Lord Cornwallis, Thomas Macaulay, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. He also explained the roles and responsibilities of a District Collector and District Magistrate, emphasizing that the police and several uniformed departments function under the administrative supervision of the District Magistrate.
Encouraging students to understand grassroots governance, he urged them to study the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments regarding Panchayat Raj The second speaker, Mr. Siddhant Sawant, provided a detailed overview of the UPSC and MPSC examination process, stressing that a strong purpose for joining the civil services is essential.
He advised students to stay focused and avoid distractions. Mr. Rajeshirke encouraged students to consider careers through UPSC and MPSC, praised the quality education and facilities at SVJCT School, and interacted with Class XII students about their career aspirations. He also discussed the real-life challenges faced by District Magistrates, including political pressures, public grievances, media scrutiny, and the responsibility of serving society with compassion. Mr. Sawant elaborated on the examination pattern, explaining the Preliminary Examination, Mains, and Personality Test (Interview).
He described the General Studies papers, language papers, optional subjects, and the interview process conducted by a UPSC panel. Sharing his own interview experience, he motivated students to prepare with dedication and perseverance. He further advised students to develop their personalities through regular reading, participation in sports and competitions, newspaper editorials, debates, and self-journaling. During the interactive question-and-answer session, students sought guidance on self-motivation, public participation in governance, parental support during failures, qualities required for the personality test, sports quota in MPSC, common mistakes made by aspirants, decision-making skills, corruption control, backup career plans, opportunities for IT students, departments under the District Magistrate, essential skills, training, age limit, attempt limit, and the interview selection process.
Both speakers answered the questions in detail and inspired students to pursue public service with commitment and integrity. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Mahadik, expressing gratitude to the Distinguished Alumni. The interactive session proved to be highly informative and motivational, encouraging students to dream big and contribute to the nation through civil services.
