The English Medium School and Junior College of Science, Sawarde, under the Shri Vitthalrao Joshi Charities Trust, celebrated the 80 th Independence Day with a patriotic flag-hoisting ceremony at the SVJCT’s Sports Academy, Sawarde. The ceremony was graced by Mr. Jayant Umranikar, former Director General of Police, Maharashtra, as the chief guest. Jayant Umranikar, a retired 1973-batch IPS officer and former Director General of Police, Maharashtra, held several senior positions, including Police Commissioner of Pune and Nagpur. He was associated with major investigations, including the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts and Purulia arms-drop case, and received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. A strong advocate of police reforms, he has also authored a book on the subject. His presence at the Independence Day celebration inspired students to uphold the values of discipline, patriotism, unity and service to the nation. Other distinguished guests included Dr. Shripad Banavali, Shri Vikasrao Walawalkar, Dr. Suvarna Patil, Mrs. Sharayu Yashwantrao and others. The programme began with the arrival of the chief guest and the ceremonial flag hoisting, followed by the national anthem and Maharashtra Geet. A flag song, speeches by the chief guest, a patriotic dance and a yoga performance by our students were among the highlights of the morning programme. Students also participated in Malkhamb, a traditional Indian sport, and a series of patriotic and cultural activities.
