Since 2014, June 21, has been designated as International Yog Day, to promote yog as a worldwide movement and a global culture. People from all over the place gather and do yog on this day. On June 21, at the Dervan Sports Complex, International Yog Day was also planned with zeal and discipline. Tanvi Bhushan Reddy, the gold medallist in the Asian Yog Championship, and Mansing Ghadge, the Dean of B.K.L. Walawalkar Medical College, were the main guests at the program’s launch. The dignitaries in attendance included the Principal of Samarth Nursing School Tejal Surve, the Principal of Physiotherapy College Chandrashekhar L., the Director of the English Medium School Sharayu Yashwantrao, the Sports Director Shrikant Paradkar, and Amar Barawade.

Students practiced meditation, pranayama, bhramari pranayama, and various poses, including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Virbhadrasana, Trikonasana, Shalabhasana, Bhujangasana, Viparit Shalabhasana, Sarvangasana, Dhanurasana, Parvatasana, and others, during the morning session through Yog day. An additional highlight was the yog and mallakhamba demonstrations given by the SVJCT English Medium School students.

“Yog is a whole lifestyle, not just a form of exercise. Yog is the best way to achieve mental stability, physical health, and spiritual peace.”, according to Tanvi Reddy, who cited Yog Shastra. She also shared her conviction that practicing yog can help us learn selfless action, choose the path from karma-to-karma yog, and enhance our health.

Pratiksha Pendhari guided and provided comprehensive information on Ashtanga Yog, Yama Niyam, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, and Dharana as taught by Patanjali Rishi during the afternoon session of the program hosted by the sports complex. Vinayak Pawar, the trainer, demonstrated the asanas that can be performed on the back, while standing, while sitting, and while lying on the stomach. In addition, the Arjuna Hasya, Markat Hasya, and Varkari Hasya forms of Hasya Yog as well as the pranayama techniques of Anulom Vilom Bhramari, Sheetali, and Shitkari were described and illustrated scientifically.
