An Airway Management Workshop was conducted for healthcare professionals, including delegates from Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and nursing staff. The workshop focused on essential newborn care at birth, kangaroo mother care, and neonatal resuscitation techniques. Hands-on practical sessions were organized through small-group simulations, providing scenario-based learning to build participants’ confidence and competence in neonatal care.

Objective

The Neonatal Airway Management (ANKUR) Training Program aimed to strengthen the knowledge and technical skills of healthcare professionals in the initial management of neonatal airway and resuscitation. The overarching goal was to improve neonatal survival through early, effective, and evidence-based airway management practices.

Program Highlights

The training comprised interactive lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on sessions covering key aspects of neonatal resuscitation and airway management.

Sessions included:

  • Basic neonatal airway anatomy and physiology
  • Recognition of airway obstruction and respiratory distress
  • Bag and mask ventilation techniques
  • Use of airway adjuncts and endotracheal intubation
  • Team-based simulation exercises for emergency neonatal response

Faculty experts from the Departments of Pediatrics, OBGY, and PSM conducted the sessions under the ANKUR initiative.

Participants

The workshop was attended by postgraduate students, interns, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Total participants: 61+ faculty and support staff

Outcome

  • Participants developed hands-on competency in neonatal airway management through structured skill-based training.
  • The program fostered interdisciplinary coordination among departments to enhance neonatal care delivery.
  • Feedback indicated a marked improvement in participants’ confidence and preparedness for handling neonatal emergencies.

Conclusion

The Neonatal Airway Management (ANKUR) Training Program proved to be a highly impactful academic and skill-building initiative. It contributed significantly to capacity building in neonatal care and aligned with institutional objectives to advance maternal and child health outcomes.
