A Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training session was conducted for postgraduate residents at B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College and Hospital, focusing on the systematic assessment and management of critically ill children. The programme was attended by 8 postgraduate residents, including four Paediatrics residents, three Anaesthesia residents, and one Obstetrics & Gynaecology resident. Around 25 undergraduate medical students also participated in the introductory lecture session. The training covered key areas of paediatric emergencies, including shock, respiratory failure, first response, airway management, emergency medications, defibrillation, and the PALS algorithm. The session followed an interactive, case-based approach, with repeated application of the PALS framework to strengthen clinical decision-making and confidence. The postgraduate residents subsequently participated in five simulation-based clinical scenarios, where they actively managed simulated paediatric emergencies. The hands-on training emphasized rapid recognition of critically ill children, systematic assessment, appropriate interventions, drug dosages, defibrillator use, effective communication, and coordinated teamwork during resuscitation. Dr. Anil Kurane, Professor of Paediatrics, and Dr. Leena Thakur, Professor of Anaesthesia, were present throughout the programme and provided senior faculty supervision and guidance during the academic and practical sessions. The training provided an effective platform for residents to strengthen their emergency response skills and develop a structured, team-based approach to paediatric resuscitation.
